Damen opens 2026 with 80-metre hull arrival

The Dutch shipyard moves into the outfitting of its latest Amels 80 model as demand for larger semi-custom vessels continues to rise…

Damen Yachting has brought the first hull arrival of the year into Vlissingen, with the latest Amels 80 now entering final outfitting following its launch at the group’s hull-building facility in Galați, Romania.

The 80-metre, 2,175gt yacht will now undergo interior outfitting ahead of its scheduled delivery in 2027. Exterior design is by Espen Øino International, interiors by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design and in-house naval architecture by Damen Yachting.

The Amels 80 is part of Damen’s Limited Editions programme, a semi-custom platform strategy that combines reduced delivery timelines with a high degree of owner customisation. The first Amels 80, Pangea, was delivered in 2025 and multiple hulls are now in build or outfitting, making the programme one of the yard’s more prolific large-yacht series.

Damen has positioned the Amels 80 around hybrid propulsion and an optimised hull form, presenting the platform as both a sustainability and operating-cost proposition for owners navigating increasingly tight regulatory and operational environments.

“The Amels 80’s hybrid propulsion system and optimised hull design don’t just reduce environmental impact; they deliver significant fuel savings and lower operational costs whilst protecting long-term value,” said Rob Luijendijk, commercial director at Damen Yachting, at the time of the yacht’s launch.

The hull aligns with the continued momentum behind numerous shipyards’ expanding semi-custom strategy, which allows owners to enter construction at an advanced stage while retaining aesthetic flexibility over.

For yards like Damen, the approach provides greater production continuity and a predictable pipeline as demand for large, hybrid-ready yachts continues to build, with markets in the 60-metre-plus segments also seeing rising demand. According to Superyacht Intelligence data, the 60-90-metre yacht segment has grown just over 35 per cent since 2020.

With several Amels 80s now progressing through the build cycle, the programme is likely to remain a central pillar of Damen Yachting’s larger-yacht offering in the second half of the decade and beyond.
