Samsung's The Wall featured on superyachts

A closer look at how the latest television-display technology benefits superyacht interiors…

Samsung’s modular Micro-LED TV display ‘The Wall’ has recently been installed on the first superyacht project and is increasingly attracting attention from the market due to its enhanced viewing experience and benefits to superyacht design.

Available in various sizes up to 219-inches, The Wall’s Micro-LED technology delivers enhanced definition. The transformative TV display is made up of individual modules of self-emissive Micro LEDs that emit their own light to produce vivid colours on screen. The result is a picture quality that surpasses any display technology currently available on the market.

“Unlike standard LED screens which are only really suitable for viewing from afar, Micro-LED screens are designed to be seen close up,” explains Paul Cook, CEO at Fusion Marine Systems – one of the few AV/IT integrators in the superyacht market approved by Samsung to install The Wall on board. “Daylight viewing is unimpeded, and their contrast ratios and black levels are out of this world. Put simply, this state-of-the-art technology is a real game-changer for both us and our clients.”

Featuring a module-based, bezel-less design, The Wall allows the user to customise the television display to any size and shape to suit their needs – an appealing function for interior designers. Arguably the most innovative feature, however, is that the display can also adapt to serve different purposes when user is not watching content.

For example, the screen can replicate still and moving digital art as well as having the ability to mimic its surroundings and camouflage with the wall it is mounted upon, meaning no unattractive black void. These functions give superyacht owners the opportunity to reinvent spaces which would have otherwise been dominated by a large television screen.

Interior designers and AV/IT integrators have historically struggled with delivering large-screen video experiences on board without needing a dedicated cinema room or projectors that offer inferior quality in daylight. This next generation of television-display technology seems to be the answer to their problems.
