'Jubilee' comes to Lürssen
Lürssen announces signing of a refit contract for the 110m motoryacht 'Jubilee'…
The owners of M/Y Jubilee have commissioned German yacht builder, Lürssen, to carry out a comprehensive refit, following a series of negotiations. Jubilee will undergo her yearlong refurbishment within Lürssen’s Hamburg-based Blohm+Voss shipyard.
Lürssen is confident that this refit, although challenging, will be completed and returned to Jubilee’s owners in May 2020, working closely with Burgess Technical Services to deliver the project.
Commenting on the project, CEO, Peter Lürssen said, “Refit has become a core business for Lürssen”, a recurring topic during this year’s edition of The Superyacht Captains’ Forum at YARE, “and I am very happy and proud that the owners of Jubilee have decided to have the refurbishment work done with us”. He continued, “Our group has unique facilities and a second-to-none potential to undertake multiple refits at a time, all in northern Germany.”
According to The Superyacht New Build Report, available now, Lürssen sits comfortably within the top 12 yards worldwide, delivering five-plus 60-90m motoryachts in the past five years, with eight of these taking place within the Hamburg-based Blohm+Voss shipyard, including M/Y Eclipse, M/Y Mayan Queen, and M/Y Octopus.
With seven shipyards, privately-run Lürssen has near-unprecedented space to build and refit multiple yachts at the same time, both in covered sheds and drydocks, disproportionately contributing to Germany’s average delivery size of 96.5m over the past five years (as reported in The Superyacht New Build Report), supporting Lürssen’s confidence regarding a refit of this scale.
Lürssen’s 2,700-strong employee force includes 700-plus engineers and naval architects, and a multitude of craftsmen to tackle projects ranging from new builds, refits or conversions – a payroll almost unheard of in an industry characterised by contractors and temporary workers.
The Superyacht Group will delve into the world of refit projects in its upcoming issue of The Superyacht Refit Report, available for order here.
