Walking the walk

The Superyacht Forum promises lively discussions on the topic of sustainability, but what steps are we already taking to minimise our impact on the environment?

The word ‘sustainability’ is one that regularly pops up on SuperyachtNews and is a topic that is due to be discussed in great detail at The Superyacht Forum. While it is wonderful that such an important topic is being put under the spotlight, we also must consider the impact that gatherings such as this have on the planet.

This year, The Superyacht Group has carefully considered the impact of the forum and taken measures when possible to reduce the carbon footprint of the event. Through collaboration with some of the partners of the Forum we hope to do more than simply discuss the issue of sustainability.

Firstly we have asked partners to reconsider the usual delegate bags in favour of more sustainable options. Our event partner, Porto Mirabello, has made the decision to include reusable water bottles to reduce the quantity of plastic waste and to encourage more sustainable habits in the future. There will be various water stations throughout the RAI to hopefully eliminate the need for plastic bottles for the duration of the forum.

Discussions with Porto Mirabello made us consider the quantity of print collateral found at events. As a result we have decided to make this year’s programme digital-only, providing delegates with the necessary information on a bamboo USB stick instead of the traditional paper programme.

During the event there will also be stationary bikes, provided by the Port of Amsterdam, from which attendees can use pedal power to charge their phones while also blowing off some steam after what promises to be some extremely dynamic discussions.

While the industry still has a long way to go on its journey towards reaching optimal sustainability, we hope that next week will be a step in the right direction. There is still time to register for The Superyacht Forum 2019; click here to do so.
