Cox Powertrain partners with CoastKey to provide modular ignition systems

The ignition system specialist was selected for its safety features to complement Cox’s outboard engines…

Cox Powertrain has announced a collaboration with ignition and safety specialist CoastKey. Nordic Wireless Solutions’ CoastKey is an innovative keyless ignition system, with keyless entry performed using a pin code on the panel unit. Since CoastKey is a modular system, a remote-starting feature can be added, which allows additional wireless functions including an engine kill switch, a tilt mechanism, anchor windlass and thruster controls.

CoastKey also joins Murphy by Enovation Controls in the partnership, which will be providing its LCD display screen for Cox’s diesel outboard engine, the CXO300. A dashboard-mounted stop-start button, with key code, will enable rapid starting, paired with a cordless fob worn by the helmsman, which will stop the engines within two seconds of falling overboard.

The CXO300 outboards will be supplied with Murphy PowerView Displays, available in a range of screen sizes. All models include optically bonded LCD screens for better visibility, even in bright sunlight, with the largest three displays offering glove-friendly touchscreen operation. Murphy displays were also chosen for their flexible software configuration, environmental sealing and proven durability.

For superyacht tenders, the biggest benefit of the system might be the safety aspect. Traditional engine kill switches require the driver to be tethered to the helm, and are often not used diligently if the driver has to move around the boat, which usually happens if crew have attend to guests or watersports activities. With a wireless connection, crew could have a practical solution to this issue without compromising safety.
