It’s 2003 and professional sailors Ed Danby and Ben Wood decided to turn their hand to rigging and were the founding owners of Marine Results, later to be joined by Jon Morris. Just down the road was a rigging company gaining traction in the market called Ocean Yacht Systems Limited (OYS). OYS, a rod rigging manufacturer, specialised in standing rigging for the large yacht and superyacht sector.
Danby and Wood approached OYS looking for a forestay for 44.5m ketch Timoneer II (now Catalina). This project marked the start of a close working relationship. Marine Results was soon appointed a Service Agent for OYS and since that first project together they have rigged some of the world’s largest superyachts.
June 2024, and OYS, now part of the larger BSI Marine Equipment Group, has just completed the 20 years’ service on Catalina’s standing rigging working with Marine Results. This is a significant service, with the rigging at the end of its recommended lifespan. During this service all original hardware and rods were replaced and Catalina is now ready to set sail until her next service in five years’ time.
“A lot has changed for both companies over the past 20 years, yet there is one constant and that is the people in the business. All at OYS would like to congratulate Jon, Ed and the team at Marine Results on 20 years in the business. We thank them for their professionalism and knowledge sharing expertise. May they continue to grow here in the UK, at their base in Palma and the projects they manage around the world,” comments Robert Sargent, Sales Manager at OYS.
2003 was a big year for Marine Results and OYS, in addition to work on Timoneer II, together they rigged Mirabella 5 (now M5) which at the time was the tallest sloop rig at 89m in the world. The boat was launched in Southampton close to the home of OYS and Marine Results.
“We have worked closely with the team at OYS over the years and we are grateful for their ongoing support, attention to detail and experience. We have a close working relationship, and we look forward to continued growth for all of us over the years to come.” Ed Danby, Director & Founder, Marine Results International.
OYS and the entire BSI Marine Equipment Group went on to wish Marine Results a very happy 20th birthday and is looking forward to continuing to support the superyacht rigs they service.
