Savannah Yacht Center (www.savannahyc.com) has completed the maintenance and upgrades to their 140m graving dock and we are pleased to report that our first client, a 68m Abeking & Rasmussen, is just completing a successful four-week service period. They will launch in mid-June.
With two additional vessels schedule for quick turnaround in June and early July, the dock is available beginning in August.
The construction of the new rail transfer system is proceeding quickly; foundations are being poured and underground utilities are being installed. Capable of serving more than six large (80m) yachts simultaneously the system offers a safe and efficient method of transfer. Preparations are being made to receive the 3,240 ton capacity Shiplift platform, designed and supplied by Pearlson Shiplift Corporation, in December with installation during the first quarter of 2018.
SYC, conveniently located on deep water, 5 minutes from historic downtown Savannah expects to complete an ambitious renovation mid-2018. New workshops, offices and a crew amenity center are underway.
Savannah Yacht Center’s on-site coatings partner Pinmar USA, part of the GYG group, is assisting the SYC team with the design and development of the paint facilities. Commenting on the progress Phil Burgess, General Manager Pinmar USA said, “We are delighted with the progress of the infrastructure at Savannah and look forward to setting up our operations later this year in what will be one of the largest and best equipped superyacht refit facilities in the world.”
