As many are aware, the 2010 Manila amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers, 1978 contain updates to training requirements
Seafarers working on certain types of vessels need to re-validate their Certificates of Competency (CoC’s) prior to 1st January 2017 - ensuring all certifications (under the STCW Code) are valid for service.
This particularly applies to those working on commercial vessels who completed their training prior to 1st July 2013.
Some key elements affected are:
· Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
· Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FP&FF)
· Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boat (PFRB)
· Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF)
· Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSCRB)
· ECDIS Training for Masters & Officers
