A fleet of 16 Perini Navi yachts have gathered in Porto Cervo, Sardinia for the sixth edition of the biennial Perini Navi Cup. The regatta and rendez vous are dedicated to the builder’s fleet and this year welcomes 56m Bayesian, 45m Clan VIII, 25m Elettra, 40m Ellen, 45m Helios, 52m Jasali II, 56m Melek, 38m P2, 60m Perseus^3, 40m Principessa Vai Via, 56m Rosehearty, 60m Seahawk, 56m Silvana, 88m Maltese Falcon and 30m Xnoi to the event. The first Picchiotti motoryacht by Perini Navi, 50m Exuma will also be in attendance following her return from a five-year circumnavigation.

The event programme includes an exciting racing schedule and the customary Perini-style social functions, providing an opportunity for the participating owners, their yachts and guests to celebrate the Perini 'family spirit'. The racing starts on 3 September 2015 and the Cup will see a fleet of seven sailing yachts attending compete over three days, with the further nine of the shipyard’s yachts shadowing the regatta.

Burak Akgul, managing director of sales, marketing and design at Perini Navi spoke to The Superyacht Owner of the importance of the event for the yard. “I think the most exciting thing for all of us is to see the fleet back out there again two years on,” he explains. “Some boats are returning, some not, but most important to see will be the match race between the two 60ms, the sloop and the ketch rig.”

When asked to characterise the regatta in terms of its atmosphere, Akgul emphasises the family feel. “The opportunity to come together, for those of the owners who can come together with us, is a draw which apparently is very important for them,” he says. “Among the owners attending we even have owners who are here without their yacht which is, again, fantastic.”
