The 1983 classic Feadship, M/Y Lionwind, has been sold with Glynn Smith – who sold Elandess in conjunction with Burgess at the end of last month – from Denison Superyachts representing the seller and Vesa Kaukonen at KK Superyachts introducing the buyer. The 46.6m motoryacht was sold for a final asking price of $3.95 million.

Built at the yard’s Aalsmeer facility, Lionwind is an iconic all-aluminium construction that was designed by Bannenberg & Rowell Design, with naval architecture from De Voogt Naval Architects. She is able to accommodate 10 guests over a five stateroom layout.

Lionwind has been regularly updated and refitted since her delivery in 1983. In 1997 she had a 1.5m stern extension at Feadship’s Royal Van Lent shipyard, with subsequent refit work in Sydney in 2002, Cairns in 2007 and a one-year refit – with significant structural work to the hull, dry-docking work and other system upgrades – at Malta Superyacht Services in 2008.

She is currently based at Sunrise Yachts in Antalya, but Smith highlighted that the yacht is being prepared for transportation to a European shipyard for extensive refit work to restore her original character for the new owner. Amongst other significant works requested by the owner, an interior refurbishment is likely to be a main focus.

At the time of Lionwind’s construction, in 1983, the Dutch yard’s average motoryacht delivery measured 39.8m with the yard prevailing in the 30-50m motoryacht category in particular. However, the yard’s specialisation in all size segments up to 100m, and just over, has and continues to develop year-upon-year, with 54.7m being the average LOA of a Feadship build today.
