SeaClean
Chief engineer Revel Boulon of M/Y SeaRacer looks at Richard Boggs' SeaClean system, and explains not only is he happy with its operation but so is the yacht's deck crew - something, he says, is very hard to accomplish.…
Not only is this system simple in design, where it needs to be, it is also quite versatile. Options of various quantities of heating elements are designed in, allowing for more or less heat and load depending on the necessary demands on the generator. The control functions are also configurable to the requirements of my power management system. Several ways of operating the heating cycles have allowed us to fine-tune the system to work smoothly and consistently within any parameters I need it to. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Richard during the time of this install and subsequent configuration of this system to gear it directly for my boat. He has always been able to meet any requests that I have for configuration parameters and is truly dedicated to ensuring that the system is a perfect complement to the generator, utilising and driving it.
With 2,000 hours and counting, I have logged little increase in back pressure readings on either generator, and I expect to see them run for 1,000-plus hours more before I have to worry about removing the DPFs for cleaning. As there is no tested and true way of measuring when this will occur, I can only rely on the performance experienced to date and make an assumption based on that. It could easily be much more. And with the install done by DeAngelo (read my review of DeAngelo here), removing the DPFs for cleaning will no longer be an arduous task but one that can be completed with relative ease. As long as I don’t scratch the perfectly polished shrouds...
