DeepBlue secures DNV type approval for fleet maintenance software

The platform expands as class societies tighten expectations around standardised maintenance data in an increasingly digital fleet environment…

Yacht management platform DeepBlue has received type approval from DNV for its Planned Maintenance System (PMS) module, placing the software within a recognised classification framework as digital oversight becomes more central to yacht operations.

DNV says the approval reflects a broader push to standardise digital maintenance data and strengthen links between on-board systems and classification services.

“This certification is more than a badge,” says Diego Zanco, chief operating officer, DeepBlue. “It demonstrates that our technology stands up to the same scrutiny our clients navigate daily. We’ve always built with real operational conditions in mind, and DNV’s approval validates that approach.”

DeepBlue has been developed over more than 15 years and is now used across hundreds of private and commercial yachts, from 20 metres to 150 metres plus, as well as by management companies operating multi-vessel fleets. The platform is designed to accommodate frequent crew turnover, multi-flag compliance and audit-ready record keeping across jurisdictions.

“From an execution standpoint, this means that all maintenance managed through DeepBlue now backs crews with recognised, third-party assurance,” added Maks Obelšer, CPO, DeepBlue.

“What this means in real life is clearer maintenance records, easier inspections and the reassurance that the system they’re using is built to recognised industry standards. And soon, we’ll be looking to expand that compliance even further.”

Issued under DNV’s CP-0206 programme, the approval confirms that the PMS meets class requirements for functionality, reliability and compliance in on-board maintenance management. Certified software must pass structured performance testing designed to support surveys, audits and long-term safety standards.

“DNV is pleased to award DeepBlue the PMS Type Approval Certificate under our new programme, which strengthens standards for functionality, data connectivity and compliance,” said Erik Spieler, Engineer, Machinery and MARPOL, Maritime, DNV AS.

“The PMS module meets DNV’s rigorous requirements and enables standardised maintenance data transfer to DNV, a key step toward industry digitalisation and the future of classification services.”
