WheelHouse Technologies has launched WheelHouse Mobile, a smart phone application that allows users to operate its yacht maintenance management system remotely. WheelHouse Mobile is available to all current and future WheelHouse yacht and fleet users and is included at no additional cost in their WheelHouse subscription.

Prior to launching the mobile app, WheelHouse was accessible from any web-connected computer using any of the standard browsers.  This could prove somewhat restrictive when walking about the yacht.  In addition, users wanted to be notified via email when a new alert occurred, instead of having to log on to the application to check manually.

WheelHouse Mobile addresses both of these points: Users will receive maintenance alerts via a brief email message as they are triggered.  They can then update the maintenance task, identify parts used, and record other maintenance notes.  Data entered on the smart phone is dynamically uploaded to the WheelHouse cloud and is immediately available on any web-connected device.  Users also have the ability to turn off mobile alerts if they choose, and they can have alerts sent to up to three email addresses.

Barry Kallander, President of WheelHouse Technologies explained the benefits of the mobile app to a superyacht captain:

“By using WheelHouse, the captain is prompted through maintenance alerts as each maintenance item is due based on runtimes or calendar time. The maintenance alert is then signed off’, as the work is completed automatically, creating a history record for that equipment.  In addition to normal maintenance, WheelHouse is invaluable for repairs and modifications because all the manufacturers’ documentation is readily available. The subscription can be transferred as the yacht is sold, and provides evidence of proper maintenance.

Kallander is already working on an offline application, due for release in the first quarter of 2012, for release on the iPad: “Our customers are serious offshore and long range cruisers, and want to be able to keep getting alerts and updating WheelHouse when they don’t have an internet connection, or don’t want to turn on the satellite just for a quick update.”
