Prolific period for Wally demonstrates yard's ability to innovate

Wally has confirmed the launch of its third vessel in a month, with a further three orders currently in the shed. And, as testament to the yard's billing as an innovator, each launch was the first in a new range.…

Wally has capped a successful period of activity with the launch of its innovative, and typically unique, WallyAce 26m vessel, Kanga. Launched from Marina di Ravenna, Italy, Kanga marks yet another “new route in yacht design”, for Wally, according to the company’s founder Luca Bassani.

And it is indeed a yacht built on innovation, with an 'impressive' interior volume that The Superyacht Group’s chairman, Martin H Redmayne compared to that of many 35m vessels. With a total area of 282sqm, Kanga features over 50sqm of interior social space incorporated into the glass-walled superstructure, with an additional four double cabins accommodating up to 10 guests.

“WallyAce is indeed a performance yacht in the sense that she exceptionally performs the mission to provide more volumes, more comfort, more stability, with super reduced fuel consumption, noise and vibrations,” added Bassani.

Kanga is the first of three WallyAce vessels to be launched, with a further two hulls under construction. The news comes just days after the company confirmed the launch of the first superyacht in its new WallyCento range, christened Hamilton. Launched from the Green Marine facility on the south coast of England, the 30.48m Hamilton has been built for an experienced sailor, with racing in mind. With yet more emphasis on performance, but demonstrating the company’s versatility in delivering it in the form the client desires Bassani said:

“Cruising in comfort at the speed of the fastest maxi racer and racing at the highest level of competition is the dream of every passionate yachtsman…WallyCento is the first and only superyacht [to make] this dream come true and Hamilton truly reflects this concept.”

The vision of Hamilton's performance on the water.

And because of her performance credentials she can expect a busy summer, with scheduled appearances in the Superyacht Cup in Cowes, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo and the Voiles de Saint Tropez.

She will soon be joined by the second yacht in the WallyCento class, Magic Carpet Cubed, which will be launched at the end of the year. The two vessels will no doubt do battle on the water in 2013.

And a busy June was preceded by a landmark May, with the launch of the company’s flagship, Better Place. At 50.5m the Bugatti-blue sailing yacht is the world’s largest carbon-fibre sloop and marks a significant leap in the size of Wally’s capabilities. “With Better Place, once again Wally opens a new route in yacht design and innovation,” Bassani said at the scene of the launch. “We’ve succeeded in delivering an environmentally friendly and breakthrough Wally 50m with aggressive and sleek lines of a true performance sailing yacht, rather than the motor sailor look typical of this class of yachts.”
