Launched at Maison & Objet in Paris this year and later in the UK at Decorex 2011, Serip Lighting presented a new chandelier as part of its Aqua Collection.

The Portuguese lighting manufacturer is a family run business with over 50 years experience and headed up by three brothers, one of which is responsible for all new designs. Drawing inspiration from nature with the aim of creating organic designs, each fitting is handmade in Portugal including its solid brass metalwork. Due to the nature by which its products are made, designs can be customised in accordance with a designer’s specification, whether it is in shape, overall length and/or colour.

The Aqua Collection is a range of fittings that has been hugely successful for the company, comprising of more than 25 designs. The appearance of the metalwork hints very strongly at coral with the seemingly liquid part of the fitting being made of hand-blown glass drops. The striking, organic chandelier (Product Code: PL360/22) can be adapted for use in a superyacht by replacing the existing adjustable cables with tubes to provide the necessary rigidity. The fitting can be customised in terms of total length and arrangement (number of glass drops and placement) as well as the finish of the metalwork and colour of the glass.

Another prominent fitting that was presented at the show is the 2.4-metre tall chandelier from their Nenufar Collection (Product Code: CT3229/43). It was designed several years ago, but initially did not receive a very excited reception from the design community. However, it was re-launched in 2010 and is now in high demand. “Perhaps we thought of the concept too early,” comments Maria Helena Faria, of Serip Lighting. The fitting has a fixed central support, which means it is even more adaptable for installation on a superyacht and again can be completely customised.
