Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has announced the launch of its latest explorer model, 460EXP-128. The latest model is the fourth superyacht in the series, which was first introduced back in September 2012. Now with four further units of the line under construction, what does the future have in store for Sanlorenzo?

Since 2013, Sanlorenzo has delivered a total of 46 vessels over 30m, which means that the shipyard has held its position as the second most active shipyard in the world for this time period, according to The Superyacht Annual Report 2018: New Build. While 2017 saw a decline in deliveries for the yard, from 11 in 2016, to four in 2017, this year’s activity is set to rise again, with six superyachts scheduled for delivery - with a cumulative LOA of 267.5m.

In terms of the average LOA of each unit, 2017 actually saw an increase to 40.1m, from 34.9m in 2016, and again in 2018, it will jump once more, up to an average LOA of 44.6m, which is the highest average LOA per unit in the shipyard’s history.

It is thus likely that this figure will continue to grow over the coming years, as the new La Spezia facility has been assigned to accommodate the construction of Sanlorenzo’s developing range of 40-80m superyachts, underlining an intention to facilitate even bigger builds in the future. 

At 42.2m, the vessel has been designed to maximise space on board, while remaining under the 500gt threshold. With a range of 5,000 nautical miles the yacht also has the ability to make transatlantic crossings and enables the yacht to get off the beaten track and visit more remote locations.

There are now 21 yachts on the shipyard’s order book, nine of which have been launched, including the 460EXP-128. Also, on the books at the shipyard’s new La Spezia facility is 64 Steel, which at 64m, will be the largest superyacht ever built by Sanlorenzo.

The 460EXP-128 will now embark on a period of sea trials prior to her delivery, which is scheduled to take place later on this year.
