The part-built explorer motoryacht Project U77 has been sold in a collaborative in-house effort by Stuart Larsen and Ken Burden of Fraser Yachts.

The 77m project has a captivating past. Her construction began in 2006 at the Chilean shipyard Marco Yachts, before being sold to a client who had the hull and superstructure towed to New Zealand with the intention of finishing her there. She was then put back on the market, before Fraser Yachts made the sale for a final asking price of $15.9 million, which includes the part-built yacht and all the equipment needed for her completion in 50 containers.

“She is heading across the Pacific right now on DYT Yacht Transport's Yacht Express”, commented Larsen. U77 is approximately 50 per cent complete and her completion time is expected to be 12-18 months, depending on the new owner’s final layout requirements and decisions.

Her current interior design layout will be able to accommodate 20 guests over 10 cabins, and 22 crew. She will have large outdoor deck spaces, a swimming pool, an array of tender options and, with an aft extension to the sun deck, the possibility for a helicopter.

Built as an out-and-out explorer yacht, she will be fitted with twin 1,100kW Caterpillar 3512B engines and will have a fuel capacity of 258,457 litres. To put this into perspective, a typical 45m motoryacht is expected to have a fuel capacity of around 50,000 litres, which is under a fifth of U77’s. At her maximum speed of 15.5 knots, this will allow her to undertake a 7,007 nautical mile range, or 8,028 nautical miles at a reduced cruising speed of 13 knots.
