The Superyacht Owner is out

Passionate, informative, insightful – the second issue of The Superyacht Owner is out. Featuring owners' unique stories and inspirational destinations as well as practical tips on ownership, it is a must read for the superyacht owner, or aspiring owner.…

In the second edition of The Superyacht Owner magazine, the follow up to The Superyacht Group's inaugural edition earlier this year, an exclusive readership of superyacht owners will discover a diverse mix of interesting commentary and insight into the world of ownership.

From the practical, to the inspirational, this edition covers topics and stories that will educate and entertain the superyacht owner or would-be owner.

Our lead interview is with shipping magnate Cesare d’Amico, CEO of d’Amico Società di Navigazione. When The Superyacht Owner visited d’Amico at his sumptuous headquarters in Rome, he was eagerly awaiting the launch of a 45m displacement motoryacht in build at Rossi Navi in Viareggio – his fourth yacht in conjunction with designer Tommaso Spadolini.

We hear first hand from the owner of 37m Vripack-designed, Zeepard, who writes urging owners and designers to put practicality at the top of their yacht building list of requirements. And we go on the trail of 32.2m Feadship Heavenly Daze’s owner to learn what inspires him to run this classic and sophisticated charter yacht, celebrating her 40th anniversary this year.

In April the Large Yacht Brokers Association (LYBrA) was launched. As the united voice of the largest commercial brokerage firms in the superyacht market we investigate its positive impact on the marketplace and implications for owners. In law, protection of privacy and commercial interests should be first on the list in the new build process. We invited leading superyacht law firm, Bargate Murray, to give examples of how they work with clients to protect their assets.

Scrutinising the management and operational side of ownership are features on crew rotation, the hidden costs of berthing and a review of the Superyacht Fiscal Summit where tax laws coming into effect this summer effecting owners' cruising choices were amongst the myriad of topics addressed.

Staying true to the central tenet of The Superyacht Owner, which is to inspire on the amazing possibilities of ownership, we bring you a top 10 cruise destinations feature, courtesy of the owners of 73m Laurel. Her owners have clocked up a remarkable wealth of travelling experience since her launch in 2006, with more than 100 destinations visited.

We also hear from the crew of another 73m yacht, Vitruvius, as captain and chief engineer talk through the tough decision-making process of choosing the right tender for the mothership.

The art of custom yachts and our Passions section show the artistic and emotional side of ownership. In the latter, President of J-Class Management, Elizabeth Meyer eagerly looks ahead to the series of regattas dedicated to this grand and historic class of yacht taking place pre-Olympics in the UK. Meyer has restored more than 100 other classic yachts including J-Class yachts Endeavour and Shamrock V and has led the way in the J Class revival. Taking a closer look at another hugely popular regatta amongst owners, St Barths Bucket, is editor Martin Redmayne.
