Oceanco unveils 120m Amara Concept

Oceanco unveils new 120m 'Resort' concept Amara at DIBS…

On the second day of the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS), Oceanco takes to the headlines once again as its new 120m Resort concept is unveiled by His Excellency Saeed Hareb, sectary general of the Dubai Sports Council, vice-president and chairman of Dubai International Marine Club – Mina Seyahi, and senior advisor to DIBS.

Designed by Sam Sorgiovanni Designs, the 120m concept is the shipyard’s new “lifestyle philosophy”, which incorporates a family orientated style of living and enough space for 20 guests.

As a shipyard, Oceanco is extremely active in investing in new superyacht concepts, all of which are intended to push the boundaries of design and toy with future possibilities. Considering that investing in conceptual studies can place substantial commercial pressures on the shipyard, the extent to which the Dutch shipyard continuously explorers new design possibilities is astounding, and a real addition to the design world.

“In designing the exterior lines of Amara, I wanted to portray a very strong and muscular form that was progressive in design with a timeless appeal,” says Sam Sorgiovanni. “Its long bow accentuates the vessel’s generous proportions. Most importantly, the interior and exterior design work in harmony to create a holistic feeling of a relaxed well-appointed resort.”

The 120m concept does have a very interesting profile, with an inverted bow, which we’ve only seen once before on an Oceanco concept, on 107m Stiletto, designed by Ken Freivokh. (Find out more about the industry’s inverted bow concepts in issue 175 of The Superyacht Report – subscribe here.) Amara’s lines are far more fluid and curvaceous than her Oceanco predecessors, which, again, really does add to the shipyard’s diverse portfolio.

The interior has a contemporary style with natural tones and light timbers. The natural styling is all about embracing the ‘resort’ style, with plenty of wide open spaces and natural light.

The lower deck opens up to reveal a large beach club, again which has a light and natural styling. Sorgiovanni has also incorporated a pretty substantial waterfall, which cascades down into the main deck swimming pool. With family in mind, the yacht has plenty of storage for all sorts of tenders and toys such as climbing walls and water slides.
