Muir Windlasses continues to develop superyacht range

The Atlantic 2500, 3500 and 4000 chrome bronze winch range has been developed and is now offered in 316 stainless steel (as an addition to the STORM range). Consequently, they are harder wearing and better looking than the previous model.
Managing Director of Muir Windlasses, Matthew Johnston, told SuperyachtNews.com that it had become obvious that the superyacht customer favoured the stainless steel winch systems over the chrome bronze finish, for the fact that it is harder wearing and easier to maintain, as well as its aesthetic attraction of high polished stainless steel. After developments, Muir is now able to offer a lighter, stronger stainless steel product for the same price (or less) as the previous chrome bronze range.
Johnston commented: “We have invested considerably in research and development to create new patterns and tooling to get better stainless steel products that are lighter in weight but still maintain their integrity.”
Muir Windlasses hopes this major development will lead to competition in the production and semi-production market for superyachts of sizes 25-60m.
“We need to be constantly developing new products and improving our existing products to stay competitive with current and new players,” said Johnston. “We are manufacturing much more of our products in stainless steel today,” he concluded.
Muir Windlasses has also developed its VC800 inline capstan, and the improved product, ideal for recreational fishermen, is on the market at a better price. A ‘Quick Fit’ Adaptor has also been developed, which means the installation is easier and time-efficient.
