Ensuring that you choose the right materials, furniture, artwork, carpets and fabrics are crucial to achieving a special interior that will not only impress the client but endure the test of time. In Q17's Mood Board, SuperyachtDesign explores some of the latest textiles on offer, including Odalisque, a part of the Pollack Collection. Marketing manager at Altfield Emma Boden talks to us about the thinking behind the fabric.
Pollack has worked with five artists who work within other media aside from textiles to produce a series of fabrics inspired by their craft. The collaborating artists for the collection include a glass-blower, a ceramicist, a fashion designer, a jeweller and a furniture designer. Drawing on the techniques of boatbuilding, Matthias Pliessnig (furniture maker and wood worker) bends strips of wood into sinuous, kinetic forms of sculptural seating.
Odalisque started with Matthias’s drawing of a skeletal boat parting water as it moves through it and displays the ribbed structure that pervades his work. Calligraphy draws its inspiration from jeweller and metalsmith Klaus Bürgel’s intricate brooches, which shape a flat, undulating plane into a deeply dimensional form. The ground cloth is a large-scale jacquard motif of overlapping horizontal and vertical loops.
