Masters Chair
Paying stylistic homage to three iconic chairs, Philippe Starck’s Masters chair, in collaboration with Eugeni Quitllet, is his latest offering with Italian furniture manufacturer Kartell...…
Arguably one of the most famous designers of our generation, Philippe Starck has put his name to an impressive selection of projects. From the 112-metre superyacht A to his stylised toothbrushes, Starck is known for his recognisable flair and playful approach to design, which are undeniably present in the Masters chair. Unlike many other designers, Starck has never solely concentrated on creating expensive one-off pieces, preferring instead to create imaginative and affordable household items for the mass market. The Masters chair will be no different and is set to be available for purchase in January 2011.
Moulded from batch-dyed polypropylene and available in six different colours, this is a smooth and curvaceous piece. Its distinctive back is characterised by the mingling of solid lines and empty spaces created by the fusion of the three twisting lines of the original ‘master’ chairs.
For Starck, the Masters chair pulls together three masterpieces to create a new product that reflects a new society.
For more products created from synthetic composites, see Q5 of SuperyachtDesign, out in January 2011.
