Maison & Objet in Paris is known for hosting the latest product launches and for showcasing exciting collaborations between designers. This January's show, which came to a close this week, was no different. One of the more unusual collaborative lines to be launched was the Kelly Hoppen for Bleu Nature collection by renowned London interior designer and decorator, Kelly Hoppen MBE, and French studio Bleu Nature.

Bleu Nature’s designers Frank Lefebvre and Bastien Taillard are best known for their work with driftwood and at September 2010’s Maison & Objet SYD saw their unique collection of driftwood ‘frozen’ in blocks of acrylic glass, Nilleq and Kisimi. Their collaboration with Hoppen this month adds a new element to the Nilleq and Kisimi line, taking this exploration of preserving the frailty of natural beauty to the next level by placing beautifully fragile pieces of coral into the blocks of acrylic glass.

With this unique collection, Hoppen and Bleu Nature invite us to meditate on nature’s beauty and intricacy, and on mankind’s efforts to harness its riches before it is too late. The latest additions to this line by Hoppen bring an additional touch of grace and elegance. The new collection is composed of unique objects in the shape of lamps, light fittings and block occasional tables. The new Nilleq pieces encase a large, single piece of natural or colour-stained coral in acrylic glass (also known as polymethyl methacrylate), while Kisimi offers acrylic glass with several small pieces of natural or colour-stained coral.

The Kelly Hoppen for Bleu Nature collection uses both natural and cultivated corals. All Bleu Nature corals have received certificates of guarantee of origin. The black corals in the Nilleq collection are natural corals from the wild that have naturally died and have then been artificially stained. With a commitment to environmental responsibility and with a view to limiting the use of natural corals and trade in wild species, Hoppen and Lefebvre have chosen to release the Nilleq collection in a limited edition, signed and numbered from 1 to 99.

This collection is sure to be another success for Bleu Nature, and for Hoppen, who was awarded the title of MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2009 for her work and her contribution to design, having won numerous awards, collaborated with world famous designers, and having worked on the interiors of luxury yachts, apartments, hotels and private jets. The Kelly Hoppen for Bleu Nature collection is available now.
