Jack Gifford Marine Design Studio launches two designs

The G100 sailing yacht and the G40 tender will debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show…

With a background supplying naval architecture services for yacht refits and restorations, Jack Gifford has announced the expansion of his business into the new build sector with the opening of a design studio and the reveal of two designs – the G100 sailing yacht and the G40 chase boat and tender.

‘’After establishing our naval architecture services for the local and international marine communities, I look forward to showcasing the first of what will be many new design offerings inspired by our passions, experiences and the yachtsmen and women we sail with,” says Gifford. Reflected in the designs is Gifford’s experience with classic yachts and interest in the history of yacht design, with both combining traditional aesthetics and lines with a modern and progressive twist.

The G100 design presents a long-keeled, deep water sailing yacht that brings together origins of style in design and innovation while producing modern performance. Designed for the most pleasurable sailing experiences, both near and offshore, the 730sqm sail plan delivers performance while the family-orientated space encompasses an owner’s ideals for a cruising yacht. Accommodation is offered in four guest cabins and dedicated crew accommodation, with dining and entertainment areas above and below deck.

Gifford believes the concept offers something different to the sailing yacht market. “I see many sailing yacht owners that own pure classic yachts for racing but also own modern yachts for cruising,” he says. “With the G100, I want to show that you can do both with one design and create something different that was modern but had a traditional feel, rather than emulating traditional styles. We are a young office and we have to start somewhere, and this design generates some context to what we can do.”

"We don’t feel comfortable with the large quantities of tropical hardwoods that are used as the default decking material on superyachts..."

The G40 chase boat is described as a minimalist, versatile and fast tender that will appeal to the current abundance of yacht owners who are looking to make the most of the racing season. A particular feature of the G40 is the fact it has been designed to ship in a standard, 40-foot ISO container, giving the vessel a global range. Serving both as a crew launch and chase boat, the design provides various layout options.

The launch of the G40 also gives the studio a unique presence in the emerging tender market. “High performance and practicality are essential traits for the modern-day support boat,” Gifford adds. “Such an easily transportable asset will join and compliment a racing programme’s other containers, making getting on the water and packing down much easier and much faster.”

Jack Gifford Marine Design Studio is determined to drive environmental change through its design choices and intends to have a focus on modern materials and techniques that deliver timeless style and innovative design. “We don’t feel comfortable with the large quantities of tropical hardwoods that are used as the default decking material on superyachts,” explains Gifford. “Modern-day materials can be used instead and are more practical as yacht decks, especially when creating something new and modern.” The studio’s environmental approach also means being open to options other than diesel propulsion, hoping to encourage clients to think about alternatives and take a greener path.

The G100’ sailing yacht and the G40' chase boat and tender are both being presented for the first time during the Cannes Yacht Festival and Monaco Yacht Show this month.
