Landmark FDHF superyacht design launched at Heesen

On 25 March, Heesen launched its first all-aluminium fast displacement hull form (FDHF) 65m superyacht, christened Galactica Star.

The concept was first unveiled at the 2010 Monaco Yacht Show with the resulting contract signed one month later. Construction began in February 2011.The innovative hull form was first previewed in Issue 131 of The Superyacht Report, by European Editor, Justin Ratcliffe.

Van Oossanen Naval Architects was responsible for the pioneering hull design, which results in greater fuel economy, top speeds of 27 knotsand a range of 4,200NM at 14 knots. The yacht is powered by two MTU 20V4000M93L engines.



Frank Laupman of Omega Architects designed the yacht's exterior, whilst Bannenberg & Rowell Design applied its expertise to the interior, which Heesen has billed 'sophisticated'.

Galactica Star will now undergo sea trials in the North Sea and will then be delivered to her owners in June 2013.
