Global Satellite USA exhibits latest products at FLIBS

Global Satellite USA launched two satellite and navigation products at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show last week, as well as displaying a number of its latest electronic devices.

One product exhibited by Global Satellite USA, and launched earlier this season, was the compact handheld tracking device, the Iridium Shout Nano. The device uses short burst data to distribute location information determined by a GPS receiver, and working on the Iridium network, it provides pole-to-pole service. The device also provides two-way inbound and outbound status, text messaging, has a guarded 911 button for emergency notifications, and is able to pre-program automatic location reports. Martin Fierstone, President of Global Satellite USA, declared its screen was one of the best features of the product: “You can view the text messages and know that your alerts are received, which is obviously reassuring when you are in the middle of nowhere.”

Another recent launch on display was the ISAT Shadow. The Bluetooth-enabled device that is compatible with a satellite phone, BGAN terminal and other mobile phone is a first of its kind. The device measures 2.75” x 1.5”, and its Bluetooth technology means it does not require cables, nor need it be in view, and as long as the handsets are within 30ft of each other, calls can be dialled and received. The ISAT Shadow replaces the necessity of a docking station, and supports caller ID display, call history call ring tone, and phone book synchronisation, among others.

Launched last week at FLIBS was the ISATTrack, Global Satellite USA’s integrated GSM and satellite tracking system. The system enables the management of boats, tenders, jet skis and personnel from anywhere in the world. According to Fierstone, “Any operator can view and control and number of assets in real time simultaneously.” Using the next generation of web-based platforms, all your GSM and satellite devices are grouped into a single interface, enabling greater efficiency and reducing overhead. Locations are determined by GPS, which are then transmitted via GSM, Satellite or VHF to a central server. Online maps that display exact asset location are offered by GSAT Track, while email and SMS alerts can be configured based on a variety of criteria. A few features of the ISATTrack that ensure reliable tracking are trip and asset reporting, remote configuration and firmware updates, geo-fencing, and speed-based alerts.

The second product launched at FLIBS was the GSAT Track Fleet Broadband Tracker. The tracking system integrates with the Inmarsat’s Fleetbroadband terminals manufactured by Thrane & Thrane, SatLink, Glocom, and JRC, and allows you to track your boat anywhere in the world. Fierstone said it “provides an excellent, easy-to-use IP connection that capitalizes on functionality when space is a premium.” Requiring no additional power, the device is plugged into your Fleet Broadband terminal via the tracker’s Ethernet port and transmits your position to GSatTrack.com. Its six status indicator lights display the current status of your terminal: power on; Ethernet connected; system booted; tracker has obtained an IP address; successfully communicated with Fleet Broadband; successfully transmitted position to GSatTrack. The IP connection used to transmit locations generates a small amount of airtime, which will vary depending on the level of use of the tracker, that will be billed by your service provider. Fierstone called the GSAT Track Fleet Broadband tracker an “all-in-one package.”
