Examples of amazing antiques and works of art can be found on board many superyachts, with owners accenting their yacht’s interior with unique and often priceless pieces. The examples can vary from antique religious art, like on board M/Y St Nicholas, antique furniture, as on M/Y Lady Kathryn V and M/Y Senses, the Lichtensteins on board M/Y Alpha Nero or the two tonnes of antique weaponry that can be found on the 55m M/Y Marie. This week sees the fourth annual edition of one of the UK’s most important art and antiques fairs, the LAPADA Art & Antique Fair the perfect event for sourcing new art and antiques suitable for a superyacht.

Since its first showing at Berkeley Square in 2009, the Fair has earned a reputation as one of the UK’s most important art and antiques fairs. Running from 19th to 23rd September 2012, the LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair is based in Berkeley Square in the heart of Mayfair. The six-day event attracts around 15,000 local and international visitors and connoisseurs of fine art and design. Around 96 of the UK’s premier art and antiques dealers as well as a select few European specialists are exhibiting works of art ranging from the ancient to the contemporary. All exhibitors are members of LAPADA or LAPADA Modern, a division of the UK’s largest trade association for professional art and antiques dealers.

SuperyachtDesign was granted a preview of the exhibitors and was struck by the diverse selection of fine art and antiques available. Prices ranged from under GBP 500 to over GBP 500,000, making it an event accessible to those venturing in to buying fine works of art for the first time, as well as serious collectors. This year works available include a rediscovered J M W Turner watercolour and a rare Royal Standard reputedly flown on the Royal yacht and gifted to Admiral John Nicholas, Captain of Devonport Docks, by King George V. All items for sale are examined and vetted to ensure authenticity and quality.
