First Wally Cento hull completed at Green Marine

The hull of the first Wally Cento class yacht has been completed in time for her July 2012 launch date. A second Wally Cento is under construction at the Wally shipyard in Ancona, Italy.…

The first 30.48m Wally Cento hull has been completed and released from its female mould at Green Marine.

When she launches and is handed over to her owner, Charles Dunstone, in July next year, she will be the first Wally Cento class yacht to hit the water.

The black hull was turned upside down and moved into one of the four 38m long build ovens at Green Marine’s new facility in Hythe, UK.

The yacht hull, a Judel Vrolijk design, was built to a very high specification, using materials and processes typically applied for Grand Prix racing yachts.

The owner’s representative James Stagg and Green Marine’s project manager Simon Smith were said to be ‘very pleased’ with the way this project milestone was achieved.

Smith said, “We are working on a very tight schedule to complete this Cento on time and launch it in July 2012. Every single task is planned and monitored on a daily basis. Our experienced team of boat builders have delivered another top quality product on time.”

Stagg added, “The team here have had their work cut out with an aggressive structural fit out schedule. They have managed to meet the key milestone of fitting the deck and rolling over on time - this was no mean feet and we are very happy with the workmanship.”

The 100ft Wally Cento is a new box-rule with the second Wally Cento Magic Carpet designed by Reichel Pugh for Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones currently in construction at the Wally Shipyard in Ancona, Italy.

The first Wally Cento will now be faired outside while boat builders carry on installing secondary structures inside the hull.

Marcel Müller, Managing Director of Green Marine, said, “All our build ovens have the extraction system and air filtration of a spray booth. This way we can provide the optimal and safe work environment for both teams working on the boat."

"The fact that we can cure the paint system and laminates at any time during this process will save us precious time.”

The system and interior fit out will start before Christmas. The Green Marine high performance racer-cruiser is built under the Wally Cento class rules and is anticipated to be ‘the pace-setter’ for a new generation of ultra powerful race yachts.
