Fincantieri unveils new 106m superyacht concept

The shipyard has collaborated with Van Geest Design for 106m 'Mirage'…

On the first day of the Monaco Yacht Show, Italian shipyard Fincantieri has unveiled a new 106m superyacht concept named Mirage. The new project is the result of a new design collaboration between of Van Geest Design and Fincantieri Yachts and is said to be the product of an extensive research on glass specifications and capabilities.

Mirage was designed to bind seemingly opposite and contrary forces being complementary, interconnected and interdependent,” says Tracey-Jayne Canavaggio of van Geest Design. “One is to anchor its presence in the landscape, the other is to disappear by reflecting its surroundings”.

According to the design team, 106m Mirage is inspired by city landscapes and skyscrapers, which the design team has translated into plenty of reflective surfaces and a design which is both light an elegant. The exterior of the yacht has clear and prominent lines, with a more simplistic exterior design which features a huge amount of exterior space on each deck.

“The challenge at the heart of every new project is creating something unique as to concept and execution. We believe that Mirage perfectly fits this goal,” says senior vice president Daniele Fanara.

The shipyard’s presence in the market is broadly recognised in the superyacht industry in the 70m-plus category following the delivery of projects such as 134m M/Y Serene. However, earlier this year the shipyard also demonstrated its abilities from 66m, with the unveiling of the Griffin superyacht series

“In our concept portfolio we have other models around the 66m mark,” said senior vice president Mauro Parodi in an earlier interview. “The fact that we’ve delivered two vessels over 100m may have induced the market to identify Fincantieri Yachts as a builder of superyachts of these dimensions only, but, as said, we would be more than glad to also show our capabilities for lower sizes as well.”
