Fehrmann's Pantograph Door

Fehrmann has launched its new Pantograph Door, designed specifically for the wheelhouses of superyachts.

The newly developed door works without an intrusively thick arm or lever that normally extends into the wheelhouse. It is completely vitrifiable and thereby facilitates a side view at a glazed peak or – in combination with a bottom window – at the passageway. Furthermore, the door is achievable flat, curved, or 3D-shaped.
Doors and windows on ships always raise underlying safety requirements. That is why the Pantograph Door also can be fitted to include specialist features such as water tightness. In contrast to commercial ships, wheelhouse windows on superyachts are not inclined and cause mirroring and sun impact. The Pantograph Door can minimise this risk by using specialist glass types.

As Henning Fehrmann, the company’s majority shareholder explained, the challenges presented by superyachts are unique:

“In modern yachts, use of glass increased as it has been of utmost importance in yacht design during the last years. Safety and comfort often have to meet, and fall victim to, requirements in design. Normally, form stands against function, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

“Requirements of designers, yacht owners, shipyards, and classes are going to increase during the coming years. For us this presents another reason to further improve existing technologies and implement new ones. Our products fulfil highest yacht standards – and set even new ones.”
