Dubois 100m sloop completes tank testing
Dubois Naval Architects' 100m sloop has moved further into its 30-month design programme having completed its tank testing, which took place at the Wolfson Unit's 270m long tank.…
The Wolfson Unit’s 270m long tank was the host of the large model testing which saw a 1:17 scale model of 5.88m used, and towed at scale speed up to 26 knots. A 16m high-speed tender and 7.5m sailing yacht were also tested. The test tank aids design benefits and changes from visualisation, and allows for the refinement of the concept via sailing balance, centreboard design, rudder design, and other design aspects.
According to Dubois, “The tests confirmed our expectations of this yacht’s performance. This large project justifies a high level of testing and we are very happy to report that all went well.”
The 100m sailing yacht, with naval architecture and exterior styling by Dubois, and a Josep Juanpere Miret of GCA Arquitectes Associats interior, is set to have a mast that will stretch 125m above the waterline.
The superyacht’s construction is set to commence in mid 2013, and her completion is scheduled three years hence. An updated visual rendering of the sloop will be released in September 2012.
