Couach 38m concept: a yacht without borders

Couach releases renders of its new 3800 Lounge explorer concept…

Following the November release of the first concepts in its Lounge Collection of explorer yachts, Chantier Naval Couach has revealed new renders of a 38m concept by in-house designer Clement Carbonne. The news comes after the launch of its 4400 Fast Fly at the end of last year and the announcement that the French brand is collaborating with Espen Øino on new designs up to 50m.

Designer Carbonne (pictured) drew on many of the design qualities that Couach has integrated into its military vessels for the 3800 Lounge explorer concept, such as reliability, stability and a high freeboard.

Described as a "yacht without borders”, both in terms of its cruising capability and how life is experienced on board, the profile is uncluttered with clean, chamfered edges. To ensure practical interior spaces and circulation flow, the layout is designed to be as efficient as possible. This meant simplifying and improving how crew go about their daily tasks and how guests can best enjoy the space. The wheelhouse, for example, features a large lounge and independent galley, which offer both guest and crew comfort as well as practicality.

The exterior arrangement includes a large and fully customisable flybridge with conning station and options to include a wet bar and galley, Jacuzzi, lounging area and dining space. There are also two garages for tenders and toys: one between the engine room and beach club, and the other under the foredeck. A standout feature is the yacht’s glass beach club door in the stern, which allows the space within to be used by guests as a relaxing viewpoint also while underway, with the unique perspective of the yacht’s wake and horizon beyond.

“I think it’s a shame to propose a space dedicated just to bathing, as all other brands do with a beach club,” says Carbonne. “The rest of the time it is not used. The idea was to allow owners to maximise the beach club, both the bathing area and the lounge area, by making it always accessible.”

The four or five staterooms for 8-10 guests have been conceived more as ‘suites’ than simple cabins, much as would be expected on land. Indeed, the designer’s aim has been to transpose into a marine context the kind of comfort and amenities owners enjoy ashore. Each suite, for example, features a dressing area, office space and large bathroom, and the master suite includes a private walk-out balcony.

“The 3800 Lounge is one of our most beautiful yacht designs to date,” says Walter Ceglia, CEO of Couach. “As a key part of Couach’s new generation of talent, I have utmost trust in Clement and his designs. I am particularly proud of this Lounge Collection because it reflects our new ‘style’.”

In addition to the semi-displacement 38m, the Lounge Collection comprises a 42m and a 45m that would be built in GRP/Kevlar. The preliminary specifications provide for both diesel-mechanical and hybrid propulsion.
