Columbus enters 100m+ market

The new 120m project highlights Columbus’ desire to tackle the largest projects…

In a big step for Columbus, it has developed a new 120m superyacht project. The project, designed by Hydro Tec, has evolved from the successful launch of 80m M/Y Dragon and sees Columbus attempt to move towards building much larger superyachts.

The shipyard has taken a minimalistic approach to the yachts design, giving it clean lines to create an “elegant and timeless aesthetic, paying tribute to a bygone era of graceful ocean liners.” She has been designed with floor-to-ceiling windows and frameless glass railings and can accommodate 22 guests in ten cabins forward on the main deck, with a 260m2 owner suite situated above deck. This apartment includes a private office, beauty room, dressing and bathroom and the cabin looks forward over the main deck to the bow.

The layout has been designed to give guests “easy and direct access to the sea” through the aft beach club which includes a spa, gym, bathing platforms on each side and a covered pool under the glass bottom of the deck pool.

The yacht features a tender garage just forward of the beach club housing two custom designed tenders of about 12m, one limousine tender and a runabout, as well as a variety of smaller toys and diving equipment.

The main deck offers plenty of space for entertaining with a lounge directly connected to the beach club through a large stair providing comfortable seating areas and a bar/kitchen for guest service.

A part of Palumbo Superyachts, Columbus historically has delivered yachts that are around 70m, so these recent projects mark a step towards delivering larger yachts in the future. After failing to deliver any yachts in 2018, the shipyard has already delivered two yachts this year with one more in build. They also have two in build for 2020 and 2021 respectively.
