Cathelco's anti-fouling system installed on various yachts

Cathelco has installed its new pipework anti-fouling system on a number of new superyacht projects. The system features a compact control panel and anodes that will be fitted in two strainers serving the main engines, generators and air conditioning systems.

The anti-fouling system will appear onboard a new Sunseeker Predator 130, two 46m San Lorenzo builds (Hull No. SLMO 46/110 and 114) and the refit of the 47m Heesen build, Raasta. 

“We have worked closely with Sunseeker’s designers to reach a comprehensive understanding of their requirements in order to produce an anti-fouling system that is tailor made for the Predator 130”, said Emma Dickenson, who is the sales executive for the luxury yacht market at Cathelco.

For the San Lorenzo projects a pair of copper and ferrous anodes will be fitted in each seachest. These anodes produce ions that pass through the pipework preventing barnacles and mussels settling. Simultaneously the ferrous anodes produce ions that form a protective layer on the internal surfaces of pipes to suppress corrosion.

With regards the Heesen refit, Cathelco Omni anodes will be used. These are designed with integral cathodes ensuring that there is a clear return path for the current. This facilitates the dispersion of ions and maximises the effectiveness of the system in preventing obstructions and blockages caused by bio-fouling.
