The hardy displacement yacht with exterior design and naval architecture by Hydrotec follows on from M/Y Acala and M/Y Babbo. Together with the CdM Nauta Air range, the Darwin class has earned the shipyard a dominant position in a niche segment with a 60 per cent share of the market for steel and aluminum explorer yachts from 80–110 feet.

M/Y Galego has been extensively customised in terms of function and design. One of the first requests of her owner required a sundeck for use as both a lounge area with full dining services and a dedicated fitness area with pool. The layout of the tender garage was also devised to house a complete diving centre as well as various toys and vehicles. As the owner is a tall man, interior height allowances were increased to 2.18m, and the doors and windows re-sized accordingly.

On the technical side, the material and equipment specs are in line with the benchmark standards that CdM has pursued to date, including 12mm steel hull plates, cupronickel piping, independent rudders, electric fin stabilisers, automated in-parallel generators, and treatment plants adapted from commercial systems designed for use around the clock.

“I have personally been involved in the construction of this new explorer yacht and followed all the steps,” says yard co-founder and CEO Ennio Cecchini. ”With its 244 GRT and intelligent layout, it is comparable to vessels measuring 115 feet and more. I think this is precisely the key to the success we are seeing on a worldwide level.”

The cosy interior design by the architect Pierluigi Floris is based on walnut finishes complimented by Poltrona Frau leather panels that cover most of the walls throughout. Loose furniture and fittings includes pieces by Minotti and Baxter, wallpaper by Hermes, fine fabrics, and contemporary works of art. There is accommodation for eight in one master stateroom, one VIP suite and two guest cabins.

CdM has delivered 14 yachts to date and has seven more from 102–140 feet under construction, including the first in its new Accaio 105’ (steel) line and a one-off 140’ explorer in collaboration with Floating Life. M/Y Galego will make her debut at the 2017 Cannes Yacht Show and the flagship Nauta Air 111 at the Monaco Yacht Show shortly after.
