'Belle de Jour' nears launch

Construction of 30-metre motor yacht Belle de Jour is nearly completed at Flevo Ship, Holland…

PB Design and Flevo Ship, Holland, are close to completing construction of 30m motoryacht Belle de Jour. Created for a highly experienced yacht owner Belle De Jour is the first in a unique custom series from the boards of Pieter Beeldsnijder.

Designer and naval architect, Pieter Beeldsnijder has often worked on projects with owners who have very clear ideas. Belle De Jour was no exception:

“The owner of Belle de Jour has been very involved at every stage of the design and construction, which became increasingly sophisticated as it proceeded. Together we have carefully worked through every aspect to the finest detail and had great fun doing so,” said Beeldsnijder.

While a 30m yacht would normally have at least half a bridge deck, for this yacht a prominent main deck and a sporty look for the flybridge was opted for. This reflects the owner's desire to enjoy all the comforts of a luxurious main deck and not worry about the extra volume of the bridge deck. He also intends to frequently steer Belle de Jour himself so will not require a full quotient of crew. There is still accommodation for several support crew members, however, with their own entrance from the stern and from the port side.

The social areas of the main deck have been deliberately left open plan, including the galley, for relaxed socialising.

Other specific requests include making the deck sufficiently large to transport a small car, which can be lifted on and off board by means of an onboard crane.

The exterior profile of Belle de Jour is 'powerful and elegant', much like a ‘fine sports car’ assures the yard. This is enhanced by the large freeboard and closed bulwarks, which also emphasise the yacht’s seaworthiness and safety and create a balance of function and design.

Belle de Jour‘s stained oak interior has a warm yet ‘sleek’ character and Art Deco touches. She has a large owner’s stateroom and two guest cabins that can be combined into a VIP suite. She also has a lounge with large windows opening up to create an alfresco haven on the aft deck.

When she is launched at the end of March, the fully Lloyd’s certified Belle de Jour will be the first in a custom series available in a range of different lengths.
