Amels prepares for five superyacht deliveries this Spring

Amels is set for the busiest period in the Dutch shipyard's history, set to for the delivery of three builds and two extensive refits. Part of the shipyard's success has also been attributed to parent company Damen Shipyards' SEA AXE Fast Yacht Support vessel.…

In the heaviest and busiest workload in its history, Dutch shipyard Amels is defying suggestions of economic stagnancy. With 12 new construction projects, two major refits underway, and the success of the SEA AXE Fast Yacht Support vessel concept, the shipyard, which has seen a growth in annual turnover of approximately 10% over the past four years, is booming.

In the next few weeks Amels will see the delivery of two 55m builds and one 65m, as well as two extensive refits of existing Amels yachts.

Managing Director of Amels, Rob Luijendijk, attributed the shipyard’s ongoing success to the company’s Limited Editions concept. “It bridges the gap between full custom and semi-custom building. Owners have come to realise that while the full custom option offers the ultimate in personalisation, there are many unknowns in embarking on a custom project  - will the boat be reliable, how will it perform, will the build stay within budget and will it be delivered on time?

“LIMITED EDITIONS answers all those concerns and Amels has earned a reputation for delivering yachts of the highest quality on, or even ahead of, schedule.”

The current LIMITED EDITIONS range, whose exterior designs are by Tim Heywood, range from 55m to 74m, which in terms of gross tonnage is a range of 650gt to 1720g, though Amels is already working on the development of a yacht of just under 3000gt.

Amels’ SEA AXE Fast Yacht Support vessel concept is also proving a success. According to Amels, “with its high performance and high quality of finish, the SEA AXE is redefining the image of the support vessel as more than just a second-class work horse.”

The purpose-designed vessel has been developed by Amels’ parent company Damen Shipyards. Following the delivery of two 50m versions which are now in operation, this summer will see the delivery of the 67m version, which will possibly be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show later in September, while another 67m remains under construction.

One of two 67m SEA AXE's currently under construction will be delivered this summer
