Nooscorp has officially launched ‘Akumendo’ – a web-based framework coordinating multiple onboard service modules - at the Monaco Yacht Show. In response to the near universal uptake of the iPad among yacht owners the framework, packaged under the ‘Akumendo’ pseudonym, is based on iOS technology and acts a ‘client server’, allowing the user to control any number of onboard operations using a single application.

As Akumendo’s creator, Guy Butterati explained:

"Akumendo was born from the observation that AV and IT systems integrators had [up to now] consistently integrated iTouch’s, iPhones, and now iPads, with User Interfaces poorly. Even though these devices are in very strong demand - and widely used by Owners, Guests and Crews - manufacturers and integrators have shown a lack of global vision.

“Each AV controller and home automation manufacturer provides its own iOS app to complement its product. [In the same way] many IT vendors have considered developing an app dedicated to User Interfaces as a source of information. But, from the end user’s perspective, there is still nothing unified, sleek and customisable to their requirements and unique personality.”

Butterati and his team have already completed their pilot project, which involved integrating Akumendo onboard Aurora during its 2011 refit, following a specific request from the yacht’s Owner that all the onboard AV systems be integrated. According to Butterati it has been a huge success. The key now, he explained, is to successfully export the concept globally, with the expressed aim of Akumendo serving as the de facto method of controlling onboard AV and IT systems.

Akumendo is unique Butterati explained because, “when it comes to building or retrofitting a comprehensive ‘AV & IT system’ aboard luxury megayachts, clients can now benefit from a library of pre-developed modules and a set of carefully crafted ‘graphic user interfaces’ that can be extensively customised and brushed with ‘smart’ design features to really match the yacht's luxury look and feel.”

Akumendo can control a number of onboard systems and functions, some of which are listed below:

- AV devices remote controls (DVD/BluRAY players, Kaleidescape, Satellite TV decoders, AppleTV, Audio/Video receivers, Tuners)

- Home automation remote controls (Air conditioning, blinds & drapes, lights, doors & locks, security & video surveillance)

- Owner & Guests information (safety-on-board, yacht floorplans, tender services, room services, spa & fitness, "menu-du-jour", weather & navigation)

- Steward Call (call from any iOS device, handset or intercom to crew members)

- Data management (technical documentation, duties and workflows, communications, calendars and workgroups, files backups and sharing, "cloud" compatible dataflow, media content library management)
