New Zealand-based Vaudrey Miller Yachts has announced its latest 10-metre RIB tender, VMT 014, which combines boat racing technology from Ocke Mannerfelt, with styling by Philippe Starck. “The result is a dramatic, bright orange swirl of cockpit set into the sleek, metallic silver lines of a high-speed RIB tender for superyacht A,” explains designer Matt Gibson at Vaudrey Miller Yachts.

Designed with a number of sports car characteristics, this tender has been created for two people to enjoy at a time and built for fast cruising and sightseeing. Combining a V-shaped hull and inflatable tube technology, as used in RIBs, aid in providing a smooth and safe ride along with the inclusion of motion-absorbing race-style seats. These seats are upholstered in the same orange leather finish as that found in the cockpit, with Parisian stitching detail. Another feature of the design is the inclusion of discreet lights, which create a gentle glow in the cockpit at night.

Using a special and well-guarded technique, developed by the bespoke tender manufacturer, silver paint has been used across the entire boat, covering the tapered inflatable tubes. A specially designed stainless steel anchor has been fitted in the upper strakes of the bow. Similar to a car, on either side of the cockpit are “doors” that fold out to become teak steps to make it easier to board or disembark the boat. Other features of the cockpit include a Fusion sound system, BEP C-Zone to simplify all electrical functions, with a membrane that covers the cockpit dash and protects all switches. A fridge has also been included with a fresh water shower situated on the swim platform. Rear of the cockpit is a padded sunbed, underneath which are the engines and can be lifted for easy access. The interior seating area is accessed through a pantograph door, where two settees and a double berth plus toilet have been installed.

Taking a total of 12 months to complete, the boat has been constructed using female CNC moulds using E-glass and carbon fibre in a sandwich and resin infusion technique. “Mannerfelt’s hulls are well proven in their speed and handling,” says Gibson. “The result is a light, stiff hull, ensuring superb performance and longevity.” Twin Yanmar 6LPA-STP engines producing 315hp will propel the tender up to a maximum of 52 knots using Mercruiser Bravo stern drives. Finishing touches of the VMT 014 include underwater exhausts and extensive acoustic insulation to minimise engine noise.

Vaudrey Miller Yachts will be present at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show.
