About
Eva Mechler’s work is both a rediscovery and a re-evaluation of solid wood. Her pieces take longer to produce and embrace craftsmanship standards that are absent from most mass-produced items. Eva’s work challenges the status quo: it points the way to a new way to design life enriching, cherished and practical furniture.
Although much of Eva’s work is developed with a high level of craft, she embraces the potential of modern tools. Eva’s craft skills are matched with her insight as a designer trained to integrate technology with making. For example, she deploys CAD and digital tools as well as traditional hand skills.
Eva has won substantial recognition for her work and she has won multiple international wards.
Eva Mechler is both a maker and an award-winning designer which enables a high degree of understanding in conversations between design studios and the production that Eva controls. Innovation comes in the form of new designs and new techniques developed from traditional and contemporary methods. Eva is wise enough to know when a CNC is needed, or if a template for handwork will work just as well and with less cost.
Examples of Eva’s own works are: the Lounge Collection made from offcuts of reclaimed wood during the construction of a yacht; the 400 Year Oak Stool that links the artisanship of the past with the present and the future; the Peking Collection made with wood planking recovered from a salvaged ship and the Bathroom collection that features a wooden bath in walnut, with a matching sink and storage furniture. Presently, Eva is designing producing the first prototypes of her new outdoor collection for yacht.
