Stansfeld Marine constructing first project
Stansfeld Marine's Aesun 11m Open tender will see its build beginning in the Ukraine and completing in Stansfeld Marine in Ireland. The marine is hoping that as its first project, the tender will compete in the superyacht market.…
Chief Executive Officer of Brilliant Boats, Michael Schutte, commented: "It has been a massive pleasure working on this project - it is not often that we are able to combine being hydro geeks with creative freedom. Stansfeld Marine have been the dream client - 'I want it to look hot and go very, very fast' was our brief."
The hulls will be built in Nikolayev, Ukraine and the unfinished products will then be brought to Ireland for the engineering and finish to take place, which finds its advantage through labour costs and overheads. Russian and Ukrainian clients, however, will see the tender built solely in the Ukraine to avoid a heavy import tax.
Jonathan Stansfeld of Stansfeld Marine gave SuperyachtNews.com background information on the initial concept of the product: “The original idea was to build something around 8.5m, cheaper, and in greater numbers, but it was decided that because of our background – I for example have twenty years crewing on large yachts – since we were paying to design something, there was no point in re-inventing the wheel, and also that if we started off producing lower end products it is harder to step up and get that recognition.”
With regards to Stansfeld Marine’s future, Stansfeld commented: “We have plans once this model is established to do a version with a V-berth and a cabin version. The boat is not superyacht specific, but it is a business we understand and a market we would like to compete in.”
