'Sound 2 light’ system installed on 60m shadow vessel
Lumotics Marine has installed a new bespoke system on a 60m shadow vessel to an unnamed 80m superyacht. The system makes light respond to music, ideal for the vessel’s disco, and creates a ‘light show’ from the observer’s perspective.…
Lighting control specialist, Lumotics Marine has fitted out a bespoke lighting system on board a 60m shadow vessel, which gives it the ability to create light shows in synchronization to music.
The Lumotics Mood Magic universal 20-output lighting controller and driver and a Lumotics Sound 2 Light unit produce the effect on board this shadow vessel to an 80m yacht. For reasons of confidentiality, Lumotics could not disclose the name, but did share details of the system, which they say is completely “new” to the yacht market.
The shadow vessel was already fitted out for entertainment, as opposed to merely a place to store tenders and toys as is usual on such vessels. It has a full discothèque, spa, guest saloon and guest cabins.
Lumotics was tasked to design and install a light control system that would manage a series of lighting arrangements and provide control from anywhere on board via both a wireless tablet and a PC app.
The entire installation is controlled by a Beijer Electronics touchscreen panel with custom software by Lumotics. This provides ‘no-nonsense’ control (including the ability to set a wide range of alternative lighting schemes and moods) and monitoring of the entire system, including the LED strings and the Sound 2 Light unit.
Describing the visual impact of such a light show, PR for Lumotics, Matt Johnson said:
“It would be the most amazing sight if they had [the system in action] out on the bay. People on shore will see this thing pulsing with colours, strobing or fading gently in and out depending on the type of music. It’s a new thing, the first time it’s been used on this scale on a boat. “
The installation took only two days, which Lumotics said is down to universal compatibility of the Lumotics units which reduce the time needed for commissioning:
“Our ability to create custom solutions in a matter of days together with a continually expanding product range of control and driver units that are compatible with most third-party equipment is proving to be a successful formula,” said Lumotics’ Pidge Scales. “The order book is currently in excellent shape.”
