Simrad launches three new products in Miami

Simrad has launched three new products at the recent Miami Boat Show - a handheld GPS radio, an antenna, and a radio and weather module.…

Simrad, the manufacturer of marine navigation and communications devices, has launched a number of new products at the recent Miami Boat Show.

Offering essential information at a glance, the Simrad HH36 Class D digital selective calling (DSC) marine handheld radio features a backlit LCD screen measuring 1x25.5x40.4mm. The radio features easy-to-use soft keys and a large push-to-talk button that is ideally suited for use when wearing gloves. It is also equipped with an integrated GPS and two new screen modes – ‘Navigation’ and ‘Plotter’ mode. Navigation mode displays a host of useful navigational tools such as current bearing, distance to waypoint (DTW), speed over ground (SOG) and course over ground (COG). Plotter mode gives an instant view of nearby waypoints in a diagrammatic form and includes key navigational information such as DTW and COG. The HH36 is waterproof to the JIS-7 standard and will hold a battery charge for up to 13 hours.

The Simrad GS25 GPS/GLONASS antenna with integrated e-Compass/Gyro, is a rugged precision positioning and heading sensor that ensures access to exact vessel orientation. In addition to reliable location information, when used with a compatible Simrad NSE, NSO or NSS display, the heading-aware antenna greatly enhances navigational data by providing course over ground (COG) information at any speed and enabling radar overlay on charts. Delivering a configurable update rate — 1Hz, 5Hz or 10Hz — for smooth and precise location updates, the GPS features an advanced chipset that offers enhanced time-to-first-fix and supports multiple Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).

The new Simrad WM-3 weather module uses SiriusXM’s newly adopted equatorial satellite system to integrate SiriusXM subscription current and forecasted high-resolution weather, sea conditions and satellite radio services into Simrad NS Series multifunction displays — NSO Offshore, NSE Expert and NSS Sport. The WM-3 includes a new compact tri-cable splitter that connects to the WM-3 antenna via a digital link and transforms the information for output over high-speed Ethernet to a single NS series unit or multiple NS series displays.

“We pride ourselves on offering the highest-quality products with best-in-class feature sets,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO, Navico. “The Simrad HH36 VHF, GS25 GPS and WM-3 SiriusXM Weather & Radio Module are examples of our continued commitment to deliver the top marine technology that ensures the safest, most convenient and fun time spent on the water.”
