As green solutions continue to grow in popularity within the yachting market, the SuperyachtNews team are presented with new or developing environmental solutions on a seemingly daily basis. One of the more mature industry sectors in this regard is the superyacht tender market and, as electric propulsion solutions continue in develop, it is surely only a matter of time before the adoption of said technology is adopted. The most recent addition to the electric tender offering is the Q30 e-limousine from Q-Yachts.

“We are now able to give the market what it has dreamed of – emission free people transport in crowded cities and lakes with next to complete silence and minimal wake,” says Joakim Hildén, the CEO of Finnish electronic tender manufacturer, Q-Yachts.

Designed to meet the requests of demanding limousine and charter operations, Q-Yachts has created the Q30, not just as a sustainable solution, but as a smooth and optimised experience for those on board. The hydrodynamically optimised hull is designed for slow to medium speeds up to 12 knots.

In The Superyacht Tenders Report, we conducted a sentiment survey to determine just how important the introduction of electronic tenders was to the market. “Electric tenders will be the next big thing,” says one of the anonymous contributors. “Silent, no vibrations - look at Tesla. People keep driving Rolls-Royces because they have a lower nouise level and less vibration, this will be the future.”

However, in the same survey a number of industry stakeholders had certain reservations about battery life. The message was clear, this is an increasingly attractive proposition for owners, but there are creases that need to be ironed out.

The superyacht industry alone, however, is not necessarily the best market to drive technological advancement given that the largest steps forward usually come as a result of widespread adoption. The Q30 model, therefore, has also been design to be use as a commercial vessel, water taxi and limousine.

“We are thrilled at the opportunity to offer cities and resorts a sustainable and commercially feasible solution to transporting passengers and guests,” continues Hildén.

In the superyacht industry, we find ourselves at an impasse where it is either prepare for change, or prepare to fail.
