‘Smart’ toilets are not a new phenomena and SYD has already reported on the washlets from Japan’s bathroom specialist TOTO. Now the Americans have entered this growing market with Kohler’s newest toilet Numi. Previewed at Clerkenwell Design Week 2011, Numi is the company’s most technologically advanced toilet.

Adopting a minimalist approach to the design, the Kohler team has given Numi a smooth, stylish look that would suit even the most classic bathroom. However, don’t be fooled by this simple and unfussy appearance. Behind the compact, clean lines and in an extremely limited space lays a series of complex technological functions created to offer the ultimate in personal comfort and cleansing.

This ‘super toilet’ includes an impressive list of luxurious features. There is a sleek and easy-to-use interactive LCD touch screen interface, which can be used from up to six metres away and controls all the toilet's features. The automatic seat and lid are motion-sensitive and the dual-flush technology saves water and energy by using 0.6 and 1.28 gallons per flush. Numi’s built-in bidet function can be personalised and it also has a dryer and charcoal-filtered deodoriser. Kohler has gone one step further than a heated seat by including an under-floor foot warmer as well. And if this all wasn’t enough, there is also an integrated music system allowing you to play pre-programmed audio via the MP3 player connection and FM radio, guaranteeing to keep you entertained.
