Powerboat specialist Spire Boat has revealed a 9.5-metre concept, the Mugler Spire Boat tender by French designer Thierry Mugler, which is based on its 2007 Offshore vice world champion model. “After years of creating the most desired competition boats, the Spire Boat designers wanted to work on a outboard pleasure boat project that would combine competitiveness, safety and aesthetics,” explains design director at Mugler Studio, Christophe DeLataillade. “They turned to the Mugler Studio to design a rare and fantasy version of their new speed boat.”

Resembling something out of the Marvel comic Batman, the four-seater tender is inspired by the muscle cars of the 1950s, and will have a carbon, composite and leather interior finish. Having worked on a number of high profile projects from the interiors of private jets to 3D concept cars, including the re-design of the Gentry Eagle, Mugler Studio was a logical choice for Spire Boat. “The Mugler Studio focused on re-creating both the interior and exterior of this nautical giant,” says DeLataillade.

The vacuum-bagged epoxy resin constructed tender will be powered by twin outboard engines, producing between 250 and 300 hp, achieving a maximum speed of 90 knots. “The basic model already exists and the version by Thierry Mugler is just a new exterior shell,” explains general manager at Spire Boat, Mr Sadoux. “It would take about 6 months to complete.” Sadoux confirmed that 26 of the original model have been ordered but would not comment on the orders for the new design until its official presentation at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show, in September.
