Future Focused Design

This year’s SuperyachtDESIGN Week will look at the future of design, explore innovative technology and examine the tools available to push our industry forward.…

In order for our industry to evolve, we must look forward by discussing innovative technology, progressive ideas and radical ways of looking at design. Throughout SuperyachtDESIGN Week held from 28 - 30 June at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, guests will experience methods of design that may transform the way our industry presents, plans and builds superyachts.

Andrew Trujillo, Andrew Trujillo Design and William Dunne, iDEA will take part in ‘An iDEA for superyachts?’ a workshop that will explore what tools can be used to visualise a yacht before its completion. iDEA, an innovative multidisciplinary design firm, will showcase virtual reality headsets that will revolutionise how designers use interactive presentations to display their designs. “As a yacht designer, I saw the potential of the innovative and interactive presentation tools used by multidisciplinary design studio - iDEA, and can imagine it's application in yacht design,” remarked Trujillo.

A key university for yacht designers and naval architects, professors from Coventry University will take part in the session entitled ‘Avant Garde Yachts’, which will present how the university has collaborated with Feadship to inspire future-thinking yachts for future owners.

Designers know it as a construction material but what else can we do with glass? A session that invites those changing the face of glass on yachts and ashore, ‘Cutting Edge: Glass’ will explore the future of this material in our market. Moderators Ian Langham and James O'Callaghan, Eckerseley O'Callaghan will lead this workshop.

How can our industry work more closely with owners when designing signature pieces and bespoke experiences? Designer Timur Bozca and technology expert Casper Kleiman of VBH will lead the workshop ‘The DNA of Design’ that will explore owner profiling and activity based ideation, structured innovation and experience design; the tools that can bring a concept to life for a satisfied client.
