Anka Metal
British company Anka Metal Coatings has created a liquid application that utilises real metals and can be applied to form a veneer on a variety of building materials of varying shape and size...…
Anka’s metal finishes of copper, bronze, brass, aluminium, gold and pewter have been developed to bond to substrates such as wood, steel, plaster, polyurethane foam and fibreglass without causing heat damage to the substrate. Not so much paint as a thin layer of durable, weatherproof metal of 0.5 to 2mm, the metal finish provides a joint free metal veneer that looks and performs just like solid metal but is lightweight and less costly. The design and architectural possibilities of Anka’s metal are almost unlimited and it has already been used for superyacht furniture, swimming pools, furniture, lift interiors, paneling, sculpture, flooring and even wallpaper. The coating comes in a wide range of looks, including finely polished, burnished, textured, inlayed and antiqued and Anka can also mix metal colours to create specialised alloys.

Much like the surface treatment used by Based Upon (featured in Q5), the Anka Metal finish is applied by hand and the completed surface is never entirely uniform. These small irregularities enhance the natural and authentic appearance of each project and help create bespoke, one-off pieces.
SuperyachtDesign will be looking at metal in greater detail as a part of Materialist in Q7. To subscribe and receive your copy of Q7 as well as future issues of SuperyachtDesign, and to gain access to unique online content, click here.
