Amels unveils new 111m concept by H2 Yacht Design

Amels has unveiled a new 111m superyacht concept, designed by London-based design studio H2 Yacht Design…

Just a few days prior to the Monaco Yacht Show, Amels has announced that a new 111m superyacht concept, designed by London-based design studio H2 Yacht Design, will be unveiled during the show. Named Pollux, the fully custom and voluminous yacht has been developed to Amels’ technically-feasible platform.

“Our ambition was a design that drew on the Amels DNA and heritage, but didn’t simply reproduce existing details,” says director of H2 Yacht Design, Jonny Horsfield. “We have looked forward to the future design direction of the Amels fleet, while maintaining a timeless look that captures the pinnacle of Amels yachtbuilding.”

With a gross tonnage of 4,750gt, the new 111m concept would have a gross tonnage that is over 68 per cent larger than 83m motoryacht Here Comes The Sun, which is currently the largest Amels superyacht delivered (in 2016) to date. The design has been carefully proportioned to enable particularly large aft decks and, as a result, a large aft swimming pool on the main deck.

Pollux assuredly has an interesting profile and, despite having relatively straight lines forward, has a wonderful sweeping aft section, which gives the yacht a really unique character. The new concept certainly has a more futuristic appearance than previous models, yet she doesn’t look too far-fetched – a difficult balance to achieve when it comes more futuristic design.

“Our top team of yacht experts has a long experience collaborating with world-renowned designers and architects,” says Amels design manager Hans Konings. In the last five years, the Dutch shipyard has worked with designers such as Tim Heywood and Winch Design.

Since 2012, the shipyard has delivered a total of 18 superyachts with an average LOA of 59.3m and a cumulative length of 1067.8m, according to SuperyachtIntelligence.com. This means that since this point, Amels has delivered more than 15 per cent of all superyachts built in The Netherlands.

A 2m scale model of the yacht will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show next week at the Amels stand (QT6).

Amels is a headline partner at The Superyacht Forum, taking place in Amsterdam 13 - 16 November. Click here to find out more.
