Superyacht PWC has recently received a number of reports from yachts operating in France that have been stopped by the Gendarmerie Maritime for not having lights on the buoyancy aids used by their PWC guests.

The news brings a fresh reminder of the strict PWC regulations in France issued in 2012, which can be downloaded here.

A basic translation explains that the each user must wear a 50N buoyancy aid fitted with water-activated lights and a battery life of a minimum of six hours.

Following a fatal jet ski accident in the South of France in July 2014, the French authorities are said to be exercising more vigilance with regards to tender and jet ski operations.  

The regulations also highlight the coastal zone of 300m from shore, in which speed should not exceed 5 knots.
